Last week, our hospital saw larger-than-life minions mingling with vampires, shaggy lions, and too many Annas and Elsas to count. The excitement and joy was palpable in the air as we celebrated Halloween with our annual Trick-or-Treat Trail. Every floor of the building was transformed, and our staff went all out. There were spooky and silly decorations everywhere, including 127 trick-or-treat stations and even a glow-in-the-dark haunted house! It was truly a special day, and one our patients and staff look forward to every year.
Halloween is an especially meaningful time for Xavr and his family. For the past two years, the Bravos have traveled all the way from Carson City, NV to celebrate the anniversary of Xavr’s discharge from the hospital. Xavr’s parents, Juan and Adelita, donned bright pink shirts with the words “We love Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford” and gave out thank you cards to our team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
“We were told that if anyone could save our son, it would be the staff at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. This was our last chance,” Juan, recalls of that terrifying time when Xavr went into liver failure two years ago. “We’re so grateful to the doctors, the staff, and the donors who all had a hand in saving our son’s life.”

In addition to the Trick-or-Treat Trail at our hospital, our online Trick-or-Treat fundraiser has become a new Halloween tradition. Thank you to our many donors who helped us raise more than $10,000, including a $5,000 gift match from the Keith and Pamela Fox Family Foundation, to support care, comfort, and cures for more kids like Xavr.
